what would you do?
hi all
i bought a 230te with a new head gasket for the engine, to put in my dead 230ge swb (manual). its a later-type m102 with a duplex chain etc, its out of the car, but it looks like the injection system is a lot more complex with more sensors and cables than the g variant. it uses a serpentine belt, and it also looks like the water pump is different, the g one having the metal return pipe off the thermo housing to lower down on the casting, the estate car one having the rubber return hose to en expansion tank.....
the exhaust manifold and inlet manifold are also different, having some sort of warm air/vacuum device between them which is not on the estate car.
i really liked the idea of the better performance of the high comp. engine plus the longevity of the duplex chain, but at the minute it seems like i have to strip absolutely everything off and re-hash.
should i ebay the engine to get my money back and find a g engine, or should i p*ss about for ages tryong to sort it? i really need this car on the road....
Hi won't the bits off your whacked 230 ge engine transfer across?? the block looks the same...when you peer in under the bonnet....
Jonnyboy,
I would suggesting transfering over what you can and all you can. Plug in to the loom of the vehicle items that are plugable.

loads extra senders on head etc, all electronics etc, it is a late 1990 engine
