Hi all,

Just bought a 5-door 1992 300GD last week and this forum already proved invaluable. I tried to find the best 15-year old G I could find in Holland (15 y/o because of incredibly strange tax laws in Holland) and so far I like what I've found. Bought this car after having owned just about anything else from Landcruisers to a Chevy Malibu to a 1968 W108 to an Xtrail. Have always loved the looks of the G and I now also love the way it runs. Yes: incredibly slow, especially compared to the Xtrail I had before, but I think this 'new' way of moving about is going to help me relax. I've already done a few upgrades (indicators, wheels) and I plan on doing a few more like adding wheel arches, so I guess I'll be a regular here.
I'm not planning on using the G for serious offroading as I have a modified Hilux 4x4 for that. I'll post a few pics as soon as I figure out how to do that.
Just wondering: anyone else from Holland?

Welcome to the forums!

Lots of Gs in the Netherlands and there are a few Dutch members on here so I expect you will hear from them soon.

Oh but the shame... using a Hilux for offroading but not using the G!

Thx Maxwell. Don't get me wrong: of course I'm going to try the G offroad, but I'll use the Hilux for the real dirt. I still feel like taking the G offroad is a bit like taking J-Lo on a hiking trip. I know she can walk but hey ...

I like taking J-Lo on hiking trips... Just wash her thoroughly and tart her up afterwards

She'll love it!

Can't comment on the slowness of your G - but I got caught at a recorded 128MPH back in Nov!

Welcome to the club and congrats on your new addition!

Re: Holland in da house

Yours must be LHD....they can be fitted with a Garrett turbo / intercooler and have the exhaust modified...which puts 20% more life into overall performance....still no match for the more modern merc diesels with programmed electronic management.......

Re: Holland in da house

Thx for the warm welcome guys. As for the answers to your questions:
It's a green metallic 300GD with a manual 5 speed, black leather and the electric sunroof. It was originally sold to some guy in southern France who used it as a 2nd car for his holiday home (?!) Yes it's LHD, it was fitted with the stock alloys I didn't like so I swapped them for a set that's also original but a little wider (will take a few pics tomorrow). I read about the retrofit turbo, but I think I'm going to give the G a try the way it is now. I've found that I sort of adapt to the vehicle after a while and I like the idea of not being able to lose my license (well not for speeding anyway).

A couple of pictures (hopefully). Plans for the near future include adding wheel arch widening things (or whatever they're called in English), painting the fenders and a few minor paintwork touchups. Considering replacing the head- and foglights and installing HID lights.

Looks realy good. 16" wheels. If you get wheel arch extensions , you will also need to get the wider bumper corners to make it look correct.

Absolutely.... and then you will need spacers to compensate for the narrower axle, because otherwise the beautiful Attik rims will look lost in the wheelarchers.... too much hassle just for cosmetic reasons.

What's wrong with the standard 6x16" rims?

Re: Holland in da house

i like the G dutch, looks very honest and untouched,unlike J-lo :P

as for the wheels, get a set of spacers from orc and the extended wheel arches from ebay.de

as for the 6x16's Isa,they look great too.....

...except for that fat turk/spanyard spoiling the picture and scenery :!:

What a nice car.

It is none of my business but, to my eyes, your car appears very fine as it is. Wide arches e.t.c. detract from the simplicity and balance of a design best kept original and pure. I can offer no learned opinion regarding functionality but I sincerely doubt you will feel great improvements.

Then again it is what makes you happy that really matters...

I must strenuously object to this comment... I am NOT fat, only a tad solidly built!
