steel cable=roller fairlead
synthetic = alloy or stainless steel hawse

You can use hawse with steel cable as well.. but the material is different, like the one that they make hamers :)

true but will eventually cut groove in hawse, so does synthetic in aluminium, stainless is better but much more expensive.
