Re: 463 center consul lights.

Huss, follow Pink Panzer's instructions in this thread:

http://www.gwoa.co.uk/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1691

Thus you'll be able to access the switches that can be prised from behind...

But then you'll have to dismantle the switches to replace the bulbs. It is not difficult to dismantle them, but it's a bit tricky to assemble them afterwards. I have a trick to do this. Use superglue to very lightly glue the metal tabs into place while you assemble the whole thing (see pictures attached).

These are the type of bulbs that fit into the switches: https://secure.mmm.co.uk/sei/s/1653/e/tub1.jpg

MB does not sell them... according to them, you have to replace the whole switch (at GBP 25 + VAT each)

As for the light of the aircon dial, I can't say but I would assume that it should be a standard 12v/1.2w bulb.

Good luck...

The switch bulb replacement is no small job. Why don't you live with it for a while first before tackling a potentialy damaging job.
All 10 of my bulbs are now out. But it has an interior light that works well :D

Re: 463 center consul lights.

Yes but you have to dismantle the consol to get the switch out first. And get the cables back on the diff lock bulbs which is difficult. And if you pull the consol too hard the heater cables become detatched from the heater valve and you dont realise until it is reasembled and the steering wheel doesn't have a master spline and .... :o

Re: 463 center consul lights.

well to end this topic i will say thanks for the detailed help mortinson and all :P

secondly, there is no way in f**k that i am gonna take out the center fascia

thirdly, i just won a new window switch off ebay for £7.99 inc p/p

i think the centre consul is easy to remove, so i will do simple things first :!:

and i will have the consul re-laquered locally while i am at it....

and i will have hours to pull apart the old window switch and fix it with my equally fat and small nailed fingers.....

Re: 463 center consul lights.

The fan switch is easy to replace. get a pair of pliers and a rag and grip the knob and give it a small tug . It will come away easily. There is a readily available bulb behind. I don't have a/c but it may be the same wth that knob

Re: 463 center consul lights.

So you mean I can just grab the fan switch with the pliers and pull it out? No need to remove the centerconsole etc. ?

The light in my airconswitch is also gone..

Best regards/

R

Re: 463 center consul lights.

i have installed the leds for the cigar lighter and ash tray lights with red leds, looks great! the fan blower light is now blue led.

but i couldn't see a light fitting behind the aircon switch.....

by the way, does the black plastic sectioin above the radio come out without
removing the whole center consul?

I have also replaced the bulbs in cigarett lighter and gear indicator. Is it the same type of led in the fan switch? (1,2 w I think it was)

Stop winding poor Hus up. Don't you know he's after buying a proper G wagon now and is no longer slumming it with the 460 riff raff.

There are 2 bulbs there I believe, one behind the cluster to illuminate the numbering and one in the switch itself. One in the switch (at least on my vintage) was a weird bulb with a red plastic base and 0.4W, got an MB one on order...failed last week, along with a diff switch light.
