Clutch system overhaul for '86 GE
Dear Gs,
I have a beautiful old G sitting in a garage in Dubai. The mechanic has been looking for a complete G clutch system (mine's gone). Is there anywhere in UK that I can contact for info on the above?
Apparently, the Gs have a three-part clutch system. My G needs a complete overhaul.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Many thanks,
Simon
Hi MB will supply the pressure plate. friction plate. and thrust bearing in two or three days at MB prices..there are two or three aftermarkect alternatives...much cheaper.....when you say gone does your mechanic have the parts removed or is the diagnosis based on "if you buy all new parts you can't go wrong" ??? also have him check the hydraulics (master and slave cylinder... the clutch will not work if they are inoperative !! .....
Hi the parts for the clutch in the manual transmission comprises pressure plate.. friction plate... thrust bearing... and a thrust bearing
carrier...hydraulic slave cylinder and master cylinder and some dot4+ hydraulic oil...automatic transmission consists of a torque converter assembly and flexi plate. and some automatic trasmission fluid.....different part numbers for the 230ge and 280 ge G's... pilot bearing is a term used when the spigot shaft has a small bearing on the end that fits in the centre of the flywheel...... let me have your FAX number and I will copy you the schematic for both systems.....
Hi Simon faxes of schematics sent to number as advised....
Thank you Fixwin38. I've just had a quote from G-Wagen in Reading at 550 inc VAT. it's for the clutch plate, cover plate and thrust bearing. Can you answer me this: is a thrust bearing and a pilot bearing the same thing? the guy in Dubai keeps mentioning the latter...
As far as the mechanic goes I wouldn't have a clue what he's done. I don't think the parts have disappeared though... it's just what they've told me over the phone, but they've had enough time to take the car apart to come to a conclusion.
Will ask the mech about the hydraulics - that's amazingly helpful. Gees, I wish you were here. Had nothing but trouble with this beautiful machine. I love her.
