I have finally bitten the bullet and ordered a new G320CDI - it should be ready for collection in April. I am intending to import it into the UK and register it as new. I have specified it with headlights and speedo for the UK.

One question - to register it as new does anyone have any idea how many miles will be acceptable on the speedo - if I drive it back from Austria on temporary plates will that still be OK or do I need to trailer it back - the DVLA literature speaks of reasonable delivery mileage. I could call them up and ask but will I get any sense out of them??

Anyone been there and can advise?

cheers Mike

Congrats on the purchase. i think you should be ok to drive it back. a few members have done so including David Watkins - perhaps worth dropping him a PM.

As you're in London hope that you will show it off! A friend is looking at buying one.

If you are buying it direct from Austria make sure the paperwork says Mercedes and not Puch (assuming they still badge them as such in Austria) or else you will have a nightmare insuring it....

Re: new G importing

Hi guys - thanks for your replies so far much appreciated - anyone else with experience I'd be grateful for your comments.

micky I private messaged you last week but you may not have seen it...

Maxwell, I am often in London but I don't live in London, once I get it I'd be happy to bring it down for an inspection! I'll look up David Watkins and drop him a note

The spec I've gone for is flintgrau, black leather, walnut, no privacy glass. I am not a big fan of privacy glass, although I can see that if you are in London or another big city you may not want people staring into the car the whole time.

I should have mentioned it is a 5 door (long)

cheers Mike

Sounds very nice indeed. Beautiful colour. Would love to see it if you bring it in to town.

Good thing you got UK spec. Someone brought one back recently and it cost an arm and a leg to change it over to UK spec. Something about the new headlights.

Re: new G importing

Silly question, but is it a RHD, or a LHD with UK Spec?

LHD - the only new RHD you can buy is the G55K
