The central locking on the 463 has died. It's something you take for granted and when it's not there you certainly miss it!!

I am assuming / hoping that it is the relay but does anyone know where it is and how to identify it?

BTW checked fuse No 16 and it's OK but didn't have time to investigate further today.

Thanks, Russ

Re: Central Door Locking

Russ,
Pretty sure the CDL relay module is located on the reverse side of the fuse box carrier (assuming 463 chassis).
Unscrew the fuse carrier and the whole panel hinges and drops down, relay module is screwed to the base (about the size of a box of fags).

Good luck mate.

Kind Regards
Peter

Re: Central Door Locking

Thanks Peter,
Found the relays but can anyone tell me which is the central locking relay please.

Pic's attached below. I have taken each one out and they appear OK, no signs of burning etc.
I'm an electrical engineer but car electrics   who knows how they work! But then I deal with Mega Watts, Mega Var's and Kilo Volts

Re: Central Door Locking

Russ,

I am having the same problem on my G320.
Besides that the gas flap is locked.

Do you know how to open it?
The owners manual is incorrect.

Re: Central Door Locking

Sorry Bill no idea but hopefully someone will enlighten us!

With respect to the gas flap there is usually a manual release. Maybe a wire pull which you get at from inside the car by removing some interior trim.

Good luck,
Russ

Re: Central Door Locking

hi my schematic and your pics don't match up but the c/l relay is next to the two fuel pump relays so if you pull the relay for the pumps with the ignition on and no pumps it is relay base number 5 . I believe there is a master controller in the drivers door for the c/l which can get wet an decay.......

Re: Central Door Locking

OK found the relay (by tracing back supply from fuse 16) and as suspected in technical terms it's goosed :(

This is probably a remote possibility but to fix it I need a chip with the reference number U 2550 B1 manufacturer TFK.

Tried Google but can only get one if I spend min of £200.

Anyone any idea where to get one?

As I said highly unlikely but worth a try!

Re: Central Door Locking

Hi the same relay is fitted to a variety of MB saloons/estates... for the same purpose....if you have a local Mercmuncher !!!!.... and its not to big to carry. use the old one as a pattern....

Re: Central Door Locking

Well I dug around a few 300 series Merc's in the local scrappy at the weekend and failed to find one I'm afraid.

So I may have to hand over £94+VAT to the MB stealer........oh that hurts!!

Re: Central Door Locking

Yep tried Maplins, no luck it appears to be an obsolete chip.

I have found them but from suppliers that require a £200 min. order :( :(

Ah well someone needs to subsidize all the marble and tacky leather sofa's in the MB stealers :D
