Some Seat Questions where it would be great to get answers.

1. If you install 2nd row seats on a 460 Short Wheel Base, is there room for the 1 space jump seats in the rear. If yes do they exist as a standard fit from MB or available as kits from others eg http://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/erol.html
http://www.blrs.co.uk/seating.htm

2. Is there a standard front facing collapsable 3rd row seat(s) for the 463. Alternatively is there kits available that can achieve the same.

With our uncontrolled fertility I need a family vehicle for 6 bums but cant stand the idea of an MPV - therefore thinking of a G. Any comments on a SWB / LWB G as a family vehicle.

Thanks for advice

Myles

Re: Rear Seat and 3rd Seat Questions

Hi All G'seats behind the standard rear seat are side mounting....inward facing.... SWB allows for two single seats (one on either side) and LWB allows for 2 double seats. giving seven and nine bum spaces..I sold my LWB 463 in September it had the nine seats.... and my son is about to sell his LWB 460 diesel which has nine seats. the four in the rear have over the shoulder harnesses. G's that have not had seats from new normally require doublers at the attach points and modified trim panels which requires some precise drilling....and panel profiling.......

Re: Rear Seat and 3rd Seat Questions

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I couldnt convince herself of a LWB G for regular family use on safety grounds. We need to use the 3rd row and side facing occupants on the 3rd row would hurt on any sudden impact.

To be honest I wasnt convinced myself. I did some web research though and came across this Californian crowd that do bolt on forward facing 3rd row seats that can include headrests and integrated 3 point belts. Seems reasonable money ex USA. They dont do G's specifically but their spec appears very basic so likely length of seat over unimpeded flat floor surface.

I havent tried them but I thought they were unique enough to be of interest to forum readers.

I needed a quick solution so unfortunately its an MPV for us. I still have my old SWB 460 to restore but still bitter and twisted.
Cheers

Re: Rear Seat and 3rd Seat Questions

Not sure if Russ280 is on the forum over christmas if he is then he may be able to tell you what he did with his 463 for last summers Sahara trip as I know he had ordered after market front facing seats to fit in the rear, not sure if they arrived in time.

However experience tells me (with 7 seat Disco's II's) they are fitted so low to the floor that after 45 mintues there were lots of complaints about how uncomfortable they were (these were used by 8 year olds), the older i.e. taller they get the worse the problem becomes.

If money were no object (which sadly it isn't for me) then a merc GL would be the pefect answer for 6 or 7 plus light off road capability.

Morty,

That Scots Seat crowd are exactly what I'm looking for. I cant see their prices but if reasonable it puts me back on the scent for a LWB.

Forums like these are worth their weight in Gold.

Thanks again.
