25 years ago on thursday a gentlman traveled to Antwerp to collect his new mercedes 240gd cabrio in colorado beige with black interior. He used this car regularly untill ill health forced him to stop driving 3 years ago.
After an epic 570mile round trip in my trusty 230ge i have given this sweet, slightly rusty, car a new home. Put on a new battery and she (NB Bill ) started first time.
Now how should I tell the litle lady it's a left hand drive

Re: 25 years ago

Cliff, original bill of sale, customs receipt for £2275.75 duty.
Letter to dealer asking for confirmation of age as 1982
further letter saying didappointed to find that it's battery failed and was made in 79. It's a very early chassis, below 3000 so was probably, according to the spaniard who knows these things, made early 1980 but was ordered in79 (thanks Peter).
The tidying up that has been done needs tidying up again. The wiper spindles are shot and some one has invented a foot opperated washer system.
Other than that it runs well, no smoke or oil leaks, gearbox like new and 85,000km

There is a thick file of garage bills etc. and the original sales brochure.
Also a schmude brochure with a card from the chairman of the gwoa, a mister Watkins.

Hi Chris worth the effort then !!! some TLC and a little re-stor-ation and you will have a Very genuine Very early G240D G' Cabrio..and it will never wear out because it will not go fast enough. 90000+km /25 years less than 4000 cliks a year. I suppose it took him that long to get that far......good luck and health to enjoy .......

ha ha - I just took a cursory glance at this pic. I'm so used to bigger engines that when I saw the grass through the engine bay I thought it was moss on the engine.... had to do a double take.

But looks good - glad its found a good home.

Re: 25 years ago

Ask me again on saturday
running scared now, at least we have a couple of acres to practice in and it does have the best gearshift so far.
BTW she's not so little, bit like a russian swimmer - lots of upper body strength
I've never driven a lhd before and it's now very obvious that everything is easier to reach, if only I could go to the drivers door
