25 years ago on thursday a gentlman traveled to Antwerp to collect his new mercedes 240gd cabrio in colorado beige with black interior. He used this car regularly untill ill health forced him to stop driving 3 years ago.
After an epic 570mile round trip in my trusty 230ge i have given this sweet, slightly rusty, car a new home. Put on a new battery and she (NB Bill ) started first time.
Now how should I tell the litle lady it's a left hand drive
Nice one Chris,
Just give her that  when she realised....

Hi Chris worth the effort then !!! some TLC and a little re-stor-ation and you will have a Very genuine Very early G240D G' Cabrio..and it will never wear out because it will not go fast enough. 90000+km /25 years less than 4000 cliks a year. I suppose it took him that long to get that far......good luck and health to enjoy .......
nice one chris
Glad you got it! :D
Well done Chris. Good Catch. Have fun with it.
Hope to see it in the New Year
All the best for Xmas.
David
Thanks Chris, will do sometime soon. Busy time for this next few weeks though. I'll let you know.
G500 all going to plan. Transferred money on Monday, so no going back now.
Kind Regards
David
engine
ha ha - I just took a cursory glance at this pic. I'm so used to bigger engines that when I saw the grass through the engine bay I thought it was moss on the engine.... had to do a double take.
But looks good - glad its found a good home.
now that is old school :!:
it brings back memories........of my first G :(
the rectangle square and white dot missing by the heater aduster is behind that panel  slide the fascia out and put your hand in and rumage around the dust and you will find it and glue it back
the diff lock, indicator displays and all switch gear show that you have a low mileage G :!: WHAT A FANTASTIC VEHICLE!!!
" put it on german ebay for a laugh and watch the german G maniacs go mad biding on it "
as for maxwells silly joke, ignore him! "if he had any sense he wouldnt be smoking under the bonnnet":P
grass and mould............ :?
Now how should I tell the litle lady it's a left hand drive
So Chris, how did you tell her ? :D
Cliff, original bill of sale, customs receipt for £2275.75 duty.
Letter to dealer asking for confirmation of age as 1982
further letter saying didappointed to find that it's battery failed and was made in 79. It's a very early chassis, below 3000 so was probably, according to the spaniard who knows these things, made early 1980 but was ordered in79 (thanks Peter).
The tidying up that has been done needs tidying up again. The wiper spindles are shot and some one has invented a foot opperated washer system.
Other than that it runs well, no smoke or oil leaks, gearbox like new and 85,000km
There is a thick file of garage bills etc. and the original sales brochure.
Also a schmude brochure with a card from the chairman of the gwoa, a mister Watkins.
