Re: Integrated winch ex AMG

Lovely G you have there! Mediterranean location? Too shy for us extrovert GWOA forum members. Come on, tell us where you are. My guess is that it's not Malta or Cyprus. No use for a LHD GWagen there. :)

Anyway. You could also possibly enlighten us as to the use of a Warn winch in a G55 with road-biased low profile tyres and sports suspension. Are you ever going to use that winch other than for pulling your boat off Lake Garda or are you a 4x4 posseur?

Come on, don't get me worng. I am normally not that overtly inquisitory with newcomers but you have to admit that it beggars belief why would somebody so professionally fit a winch in a G never to use it?

In any even I doubt it was you for I think I know your car and I doubt that it was you who owned it when theat winch was fitted.... please see the pictures attached. They were taken in July 2003 at the GWOA stand in the 4x4 show in Beaulieu, New Forrest.

Tell us more about the history of that G... Lovely Havana leather roof and stitched dashboard and special designo paintjob.....

"Tell us more about the history of that G"

I ordered the car in 2000, took delivery 12 months later in Ldn.

In 2003 I offered the car via g-wagen.co.uk for sale, but the G stayed with me. Now I drive it only occasionally in France, Italy & Greece.

The winch was ment to pull jet ski & trailer out of the water. ( But I didn't get the ordered hitch and use another car now for trailers.)

Cheers

Re: Integrated winch ex AMG

Excuse my ignorance, but would the same pulling power be achieved by simply attaching a cable/rope to the front bumper and reversing in low gear?

Ahh I did look at that a G-Wagen a few years back and had wondered what had become of it. Glad to see it is still around. Its certainly a unique G. I don't know of any other SWB AMGs (Brabus yes) other than a few cabrios.

I remember that G55, I think that it was James (GWagen uk) who bought it down to Beaulieu and said that it was for sale. It had a big stereo in it too.
In the pics you can see "Fred's" 270 cdi and Ian's shiney 460 pre-roll.

Looks like someone put tyres from a traction engine on that car

Re: Integrated winch ex AMG

nicely put mgrays

it actually drives very well in comparison to the original 18" alloys

these are 20" s :!:

8.5x20 fr with 245.30.20 falkens.

10x20 rr with 285.25.20 falkens......ouch!!

rides smoother than a G but you must watch the road closely for potholes!

Huss,

The black soft top looks great, personally wouldn't be a fan of those wheels especially not over here. But, with that kind of rubber on I would love to have you as a customer as for sure you would be filling out my "Customer of the year form" for 2007.

As soft tops go I will gladly settle for your other beauty the G cabrio any day.

Regards,

Mike

PS they must be like driving on elastic bands.

Yes, Peter, if he wants a winch, well this is a free world! Even for Huss to ride his CLK on rubber bands

Re: Integrated winch ex AMG

4 sets Why !. All that money on wheels you could put towards a nice 463 your pinning for, ditch the clk and the 280 and get a 500 and be done with it, two cars in one.

lol @ you 2..well personally i admit it takes courage to post a pic of those wheels here ;)

octo-p i've got a Q for you, what is the finish on your dashboard, where burr walnut or another kind of wood normally is, yours looks a bit matt, is it finished in leather instead?

Re: Integrated winch ex AMG

he could have paid for that rhd 320cdi.

the money he spent on the wheels could have gone on a nice sl55.

good in l.a but just not my cup of tea over here, but then i have a very fussy wheel taste.

Re: Integrated winch ex AMG

spotted this winch bumper on sale (along with a G :P ) in the UAE, and it looks remarkably similar to the AMG one, only without the winch.

Re: Integrated winch ex AMG

that would explain the workmanship, it looks fairly robust.
the rest of the car ad is here:

(about £12.7k)

Re: Integrated winch ex AMG

i was afraid of this reaction if i posted the price
but either the prices in the US and UAE are waay out of line, or those in the UK and EU are (in the other direction).
i guess there is little need to explain how the population of dubai has doubled in the past decade, and will probably do so again before 2020.
