Tacho and ABS
Hi
Have a problem with my tacho on a 300GD 463.
Only works now and again and so ABS is off. MOT is due so checked out sender; works fine, and wiring OK. Some black box in fuse area (passenger footwell) is cause as it clicks when tacho starts working and idle rises ?
A light thump in the fuse area gets tacho working now but not sure if MOT tester is going to be happy with this?
Any ideas which box of tricks is responsible?
No,
well you asked
Hi Fillan I have the 463 manual and there are 6 pages of reference for the ABS cannot see any ref to the system being linked to the tacho sender / indicator can Fax all the pages if you need them rgds
Hi suggest you check the abs on/off switch and the overvoltage supressor relay.and the multi pin plug for corrosion or bad ground /earth continuity
I think that the overvoltage regulator is the common device here. It looks like a normal relay with a fuse on top in amongst the other relays.
OVP relay a common problem-giver on w124 and w126's, various including rough running, ABS light, etc etc
:D :D :D
What a wonderful forum
Thankyou guys!
Problem was Overvoltage protection relay=little black box with fuse on top
Substituted with one from another 463 and bingo everything works as it should. ABS light even goes out after 1 second and tacho works fine.
Now going to dig around under bonnets of our W124 collection to see if I have any spares.Might even sort out a rough running 300TE with this fix.

Do you bit of charity this Christmas mate!
Glad to help - its how forums like this work.....
Thanks
I have a copy of the manual but doesnt make much sense to me.
I thought the ABS was linked to speed but ours is definitely linked to the revs.
Tachno not working =ABS light on
Tacho working =light goes out
The wagen did belong to a certain dealer near Reading at some point
Anyone want to disconnect their tacho and see if the ABS light stays on for them?
Good news is the G failed only on a light bulb and is retesting now.
