Headlight Bulbs for a W463 LWB
Hi Guys,
Just searched through the forum technical section, the headlight bulb on My 500 LWB RHD has 'popped'. I went to the local Stealership and they said it was an old H4, and most modern Mercs have H7???? (what ever an H7 is)
Now I am not a technical guy (my posts probably show), and I have read through the posts, but they all refer to LHD's or people want to go from LHD to RHD. Can any one let me know what the correct part number is so I can order it?
Many thanks

dont get it from mercs for god sakes!!!
an h4 is a standard halogen twin filament bulb.
na car parts shop will sell them, you can get dozens of different types, but as long as it is h4 it will fit, ie higher wattage for more light ( but more current, may not be good for cabling, also not technically road legal).
i would recommend bosch cool blue that give a bit of a different colour and seem to light better as a result.but dont forget if you do get anything other than a bog standard replacement, get two!
h7 is also a standardised halogen fitting but it is single filament.
The posts you are reading about LHD/RHD conversions refer to the entire headlight - not the bulb. You can get suitable bulbs from most auto parts dealers.
If you want more light with the standard 460/461/463 headlights, get a pair of 55/100 watts H4 lamps.... yes, they are illegal but the MOT man won't ever know unless you tell him and yes, the electrical system of any GWagen can cop with them. Much better light for peanuts.
i have just fitted a set of PHILLIPS 12v 60/55w H4's called X-treme Power.
the box says that they are the most powerful street legal bulb.
£25 a pair £30 retail. i think they are worth it.
( the reason i changed to these was because my alternator was overcharging and blew the bulbs  )
Blimey,, are they gold plated or something? :D

as for the 100w bulbs available on the uk market, police (in essex) use a light meter and can tell you exactly what bulbs you have fitted on the spot
NEVER SEEN THEM IN LONDON. You only see bloody cameras in london anyway. more and more of it everyday. annoying
No, neither have i. More rumour then fact i would imagine. Never even had a MOT guy notice 100w bulbs either.
