Buying a G500 - type approval
I have acquired a very low mileage LHD G500 built in 1989 from its first owner. It is currently on Swiss plates and was delivered I believe by a Swiss MB dealer and I will be taking delivery in France in a couple of weeks.
I presume all Gs have type approval and that Single Vehicle Approval is not required.
I am making arrangements to import the vehicle myself.
Does anyone know:
a) the answer to this question; and
b) where do I get evidence of type approval from ?
Many thanks in advace to anyone responding.
Michael
Do you mean 1999 G500?
Anyway Milton Keynes should be able to supply a certificate of conformaty from the chassis number. I think it's around £100
They never made a 1989 G500.
But yes you will need to get tranport insurance (you can insure on the chasis number) and plates then drive back to UK.
Once back swap over fog light, headlights and speedo.
Get MOT
Then get a CoC from Milton Keynes as mark says.
Then tax your car.

Don't forget to also have fun in your G!

It is all fairly easy, just a little time consuming, theres a good few here that have bought their G's in Europe, and registered them in the UK.
WELCOME MICKY117!
Early? I was probably still awake....
My only advice with the 500's - keep it below 126MPH! (2nd gear to all non 500's) :) :)

Dear Maxwell, Spider and Mark
First thanks for your really prompt replies - glad I just joined the GWOA !
Second, it is 1999 - well spotted. Can't believe you're that awake so early in the morning !
Third, if I actually get past French customs and British customs (having paid my dues of course) and get the thing registered I might be able to have some fun with it !
Hope to see you at some GWOA event in the New Year - or there may be a lovely G500 impounded in Calais going cheap in a few weeks time !
Kind regards
Michael
