Have spent much time and much waxoyl rustproffing my 460.

Have now got to the bulkhead - how do I get a good coat of wax into the area below the windscreen?

Can I take the glovebox out to gain access??

Anybody got any good ideas on this?

Andy

Yep take the glovebox out first and you could also take the windscreen wiper motor off from the engine side which gives a good size hole to work through. I would be careful about waxing too much behind the dash though with all the electrics there and it will gas you out when you put the heater on

Hi if you are using an air compressor and a schultz body coat type dispenser as a resevoir... take a length of 3to4mm id plastic hose and blank one end...heat a darning needle or 1mm max diameter stiff wire and melt some holes in a spiral formation along the hose for 5/6 cm from the blanked end. fit the other end over the schultz gun nozzle... insert the hose as far as it will go up the door pillars along the dash. along the sills and windscreen frames and bottoms of doors etc and squeeze the trigger whilst slowly withdrawing the hose. note: the waxoil MUST BE HOT 75/80% min' otherwise the hose will clog. turn gun upside down and blow residual waxoil out of the hose into the tin between applications .Ideally hose sized access holes should be drilled at "hard to get to points" in the body structure to accept the hose and be blanked with rubber bungs when treatment is finished.. there are 99 ways to do it wrong and ONE to do it right !!!!!

Cheers guys.

Would you expect to be able to find much rust on the inside of windscreen bulkhead?
Do they rot from inside or out?

Mine has only a fine line on the outside where panels meet and paint has cracked?

Re: Rust proofing the bulkhead

There are two notches on the lower edged of the inner tin work of the windscreen base on the inside for waxing .. guess you could get to one from the glove box and one from behind instrument binnacle... see attached photo of the new black panel being fitted. (Sorry no nice photos of the painted part yet but it still looks like this.. only silver)

They will rust here especially when the paint work fails under the windscreen rubber after a "rough" windscreen replacement (and many are I think as Autoscreen folk don't care about what is not seen... consider lifting the windscreen rubber on the outside and feeding some wax in there as insurance.
