230 saloon engine
Does anyone know of any differences between the 230 petrol (?m102) g wagen engine, and the 230 saloon/coupe engine? I realise the sump is a likely contender, but anything else significant ? Also, is it detuned for the G? I'm trying to see whether its worth the hassle going for a saloon/coupe engine over a standard drop-in G engine. Going from a 280 to a 230 is going to be a shock in itself.....but hopefully not at the pumps
Yes G is detuned, about 8%. various configurations of ecu/fuel distributors mean you can change engines but try to keep ecu and injection system together. And yes change the sump. If the saloon had self leveling then there will be a pump on the end of the cam(outside) which simply unbolts, take off the rocker cover, remove the dog gear and replace the rocker gasket with a G specific one which blanks the hole for you (the semi-circular black bit on the front of the head). Change the sump. If going from 280 to 230 you will also have the wrong bell housing. Having done all that you could get 280m from a tank full - mine does on a good, gentle day.
Cheers

Can't keep up :?
Mrs long suffering dentsmithy says can't we just buy a new one!!!!!!!!!!
Hysterical laughter at this end.
You two will be off dogging next! LOL
Thanks for that. I'm not going from a 280 to a 230, this is a different project ;)
