Re: Musso

Hi Chris the engine serial No would indicate that it is an OM 662 which I believe was the series built under licence,,,,,

Re: Musso

Thanks peter, that was my assumption, pity really - 2.9td, intercooler, 70,000m including electrics - all for GBP600 - had to be too good to be true

Re: Musso

Hi Chris research (see Email)reveals that only the OM662 and OM 662LA were fitted with a turbo (STT) the LA was also intercooled....perhaps this was one of the MB deals whereby the shipped all the parts and the Koreans did the assembly.might not be as bad as you think..the Musso forums seem to be focussed on whacked gearboxes rather than engines...electrics might be the same as the early sprinter virtually none... so it might work !!!

Re: Musso

It's very tempting, my only concern is parts availability, and cross referencing. As you say the ssangyong forums mainly talk about gearboxes but also warped heads due to substandard viscous couplings - seems your standard mussso driver goes out, buys a used car, then hooks up a huge caravan and tries to do 90mph - the viscous coupling probably never opperated in it's life. This particular car needed a new clutch and fly wheel and was deemed too expencive to repair. visualy it looks like a 602 from a gwagon but the air intake is slightly different, though low enough to fit.
''research (see Email)reveals'' - Ihaven't had an email yet?

Re: Musso

Hi Chris I sent the emails to the address you PM'd me..that's the only one I have.....anyway congrats' I was told (unconfirmed) that the short motor and head are the same as the OM 602...both manifolds are different as is the exhaust interface..I think the Musso engine is installed at an angle .don't know about the sump pan angle though.....looks like there was a raft of them sold in Australia.perhaps GWOA members there have some info..not all negative I hope......
