Having had my V8 Touareg LPG'd a few months ago (Phew on the fuel bills!!), I went to tax it today.

Got the clerk to tax it as an alternative fuel car which cost £190 as opposed to £205.

Now, I know that is not a lot....however, that was not the time to argue emissions\banding etc.

Stage 1....Get the new log book showing different fuel class.
stage 2.... Get emissions readout from her 1st MOT (January)
Stage 3.....Armed with evidence of emissions i.e 1st or 2nd band(LPG gives a VERY low co2 reading)... argue point.
Stage 4....Tax her for £15 a year instead!! :D

http://www.dvlni.gov.uk/vehicles/dutyplg.htm

That simple?

Now I know this is of limited "G" interest, but for those with a G500 or more, might amount to an easier run and sellable vehicle.

Cheers

It's a matter of class... not motoring Ian

If we all drove with our brains rather than our hearts, there would just be one model in the market.

hi martin, does your toerag not have to run solely on autogas to comply with the reduced tax relief :?:

its worth looking into for sure :!:

my mate has moved from 2 grand cherokee ltds to a toerag (all petrols) and now drives a G500 in dubai.

"now i understand why you only talk G... :!: " were his exact words to me

has any one done a G500 conversion to alternate fuel? If so, what has it run like and can you still get it services at a MB garage?

Re: LPG... ALTERNATE FUEL TAX BAND.

I WILL SAY THIS ONLY ONCE  :!:

"LPG is the only way forward :!: :!: "

a close friend of mine has just fitted an LPG system to his 300GEL,i hope he will be revealing all soon.

he loves it and is saving bundles of cash, now how can you argue with that  (and so am i )

alot had been said against lpg on this forum and p3 but if fitted properly to a healthy engine you have no worries.the leads sparks and electrics are the main points to look into.but the G500 would make a great G more useable as an every day vehicle unless you are bill gates or simon cowan :P

also, the modern petrol engines use "sequential" fuel system which make them much more efficient.

Look, all you modern petrol G users go green and do yourselves a favour.

did you know that lpg has "ZERO" additives unlike todays crap petrol and diesel which is the cause of most problems that occur?

as for mb servicing, your G500 will run on duel fuel and will be serviced as normal if you can find a good mb service centre

i have just met a bloke called paul waights,he is a one man band mercedes specialist and an expert on k-tronic fuel systems.he has all the tools,a pit,a lift ,diagnostics and enthusiasm and passion for the marque

he also has a G400 in his portfolio of clients, which was the result of a main dealer not being able to find the fault :!:

Re: LPG... ALTERNATE FUEL TAX BAND.

Actually Huss I would say fuel cells will be the way forward. LPG is only a step towards it. I think I am green enough, and anyway the planet is on a 1500 year cycle and we are just getting to the hottest point in that cycle/

However if I save cash, it means I am one step closer to a SWB V8, so keep taking.....

Oh do me a favour, do you think LPG occurs naturally, perhaps a by product of butterfly's flying, and dolphins swimming?

Don't get me wrong, if i had a petrol motor i certainly would look into LPG, but for financial reasons, not some half baked, cock & bull "green " issue.

Re: LPG... ALTERNATE FUEL TAX BAND.

hey mark, dont compare lpg with what you produce after a curry and a pint

petrol used to be crap on the continent and first class here in the uk.

"turks in cyprus would dream of running their mercs on our
uk petrol because the local stuff was so poor  " i"it was top of their "wish list".

lpg has no additves.

Re: LPG... ALTERNATE FUEL TAX BAND.

spider if your are seriously thinking of lpg tell me, theres a place up here in norwich that i popped into and they are very good with it. they change the ignition timing too to get a cleaner burn and are very advanced, theyre also building a lpg only race car so the only people i would go to after chatting to them. as soon as my car is fixed im dropping it off to them for a few adjustments, (also thinking of dropping a new 4.6 in as mine is starting to use a bit of water but thats another story!)
