I have a 2000 G500 Cabriolet and somehow the tachometer has turned a few degrees in its holder. Is there an easy way to pop the instrument pod out of the dash in order to correct the alignment?

Thanks.

You would have to be able to turn it from the back if at all as the front is sealed.

You can pull out the whole cluster of which the tach is intergrated and try and access it that way; but it is easier if you have the right tools. I think they are cheap on eBay....

I don't think there is enough clearance to get the instrument cluster out without taking the steering wheel off which makes the job impossible unless you can disable the airbag and have the tools to remove the steering wheel.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like a job for the dealer.

There are not too many jobs that have to be done by the Merc dealer but this is probably one of them, If you bought the car quite recently then I would expect them to do this for nothing (heres hoping). I have got to replace the cruise control stalk on my car which also invloves removing the steering wheel. Was broken by previous owner (a woman) trying to put the indicator on and breaking that off instead

I can very easly remove the instrument cluster without touching the steering wheel; in fact, I can do it easily that I don't need the special tools, just my bare degreased hands
