G 500 (463 - 2001) No kick down Acceleration
Hi All, just take delivery of my G500 (2001) and everything seems fine, however I came to do a bit of acceleration and did a ‘kick down’ the engine paused, jumped forward and then decided to just ‘go slow’ – what I mean by that is I still get acceleration, however it is almost like parking speed and then builds up. Even using the gears the acceleration is very, very slow. I have had this in Mercedes before and in that case it tended to be the kick down switch located below the accelerator pedal, however being new to the whole G environment I wanted to check if anyone else has had this problem and what they did to rectify it?
I have called G-Wagen, the supplier, and they have assured me they can take a look (have a number of small other niggles to address) when I take it in, however I thought I would post it here to get some good G advice or it may be a known issues that requires a simple fix.
Many thanks

As your model has the benefit of an adaptive transmission, you will find that re-setting it to learn your driving style can bring an improvement in performance too.

Not sure if it will fix the issue above as you need to test the kickdown switch (you should be able to hear/feel the click when it engages, or try pressing it with your finger below the pedal to see if it does that, then do it while driving). In my humble experience, kickdown in a G500 at any slow speed produces scary results, and turns heads too!
You're most welcome...just don't expect more than 200 miles out of a full tank hehe.

M2dxd,
What a great tip - I will try that tomorrow (firework and the stuff tonight). Would be interesting if that will fix it - I hope so. Driving through Marlow today (when it was working) heads did turn, when I had to 'sprint' over the bridge! :)
wife and kids love the engine note to!
