Can someone help in removing starter motor in a 1987 230 ? has anyone been there before ? is there a way of it coming out without removing engine mountings ?
Thanks
Fred

Re: starter motor

Hi Fred the 230 starter does not give a lot of grief...whats the symptoms??? bad earth connections to the engine will cause it to be very sluggish...lack of use can cause the solenoid to stick....

Re: starter motor

Well if it is like 300GD you need allen key sockets, flexy adapters (lots) and about 12" of extension.. plus blind faith. Not very nice by all accounts.. I have inner wings off etc if you want a photo of what you are getting into.

I tought it was as simple as the 300gd but not, engine mountings on the way...

Re: starter motor

Hi Fred if it is a Bosch starter... as you turn the key the solenoid pulls the Bendix into the teeth on the flywheel.at that point the motor starts to turn...you say it screams which means the motor is turning but the solenoid is stuck and not moving the Bendix....slackening the the bolts that hold the Bedix to the starter body can relieve the problem. make sure the solenoid is properly aligned when you tighten up the bolts again.if this does not work then the starter has to come off and the bolts are hard to reach plus the mount is in the way

F..... H.... you've got time to scroll down all the for sale ads going back more than a year ago ?? when do you get time to work ? :D :D :D

Well it seems that the starter motor was burnt out by something else.. :? :(  but too technical for me to explain..
