265 x 75 R16 Tyres
Can anyone help ?
I been given a set of 5 brand new BFG MT 265 x 75 R16 tyres, only trouble is my 460 300D is still ftted with the std MB 5.5Jx16 steel wheels.
Most of the time is spent working off road & so these tyres would be great, but need to find a set of wheels to suit.
Don't mind if they are Steel or Alloy but as I don't do many miles don't want to spend a fortune.
Does anyone have for sale or know where I can get either my wheels modified to take the 265's
Cheers
I would say that the cheapest course of action is to buy a set of 6x16" alloys as they were stardard fitment of the UK-spec W463s.
You can try German Ebay. There are some of these on offer from time to time.
on a technical point if you go to bfg's website their recommended rim width for 267/75 x 16 tyres is 7 to 8 inches.

Absolutely... and then you see guys with the 235/85R16 fitted to the 5.5x16" rims and running perfectly fine...
the other option is to get a set of steel wheels banded that is split rim and weld a strip of steel in, i did this to a set of pugeot boxer van rims they started as 6x16 but the center has also got to be machined out.
Hi All,
Yep, I reckon your right the 265 tyre is too wide for the 6jx16 rim. Although the 235/85x16 will fit it well without difficulty because its narrower.
Saying that, modern tyre machines will fit them on the smaller rim but you will ultimately loose contact area.

Cheapest way to get the correct width alloy
is to fit wheel spacers that convert the stud pattern too
L---/R---- 5 stud this opens the market to any original fit cheap alloys
of that stud pattern .
With the off-set of these alloys and the spacers the combination still stays
inside the wheel arches.

but getting PCD conversion spacers is the tricky bit, does anyone make them?
i think bronco 4x4 were making spacers and said they could do g to landy ones a year or so ago at one of the shows.
i asked bronco the same question a year ago they said no..
Hi
My spacers were made by a company called Forgetec
web site
www.forgetec4x4.co.uk
List price £200 +vat
The last time I bought some they gave me a dscount as i ordered three sets
If enough of you get together I can try again for discount (let me know)
Hope this helps Giles :)

Hi
If you look at G`s for sale sectiion (off road 280) you will see my
G :) With Range Rover Alloys
It also in the picture has 265 /75 x16 Bronco Grizley Claws fitted
You can see that with the spacers and these alloys, the wheels
fill the wheel arches properly and give it a better stance
I paid £5.00 per wheel (not the best looking alloys buy very strong,
plentyful & cheap)
regards Giles
how safe is the use of spacers?
am i worrying too much that it will have a bad effect on the ride quality and/or will have a bad impact on other parts (ie suspension)?
As in everthing Quality Materials and correct fitment is the key
I`ve had my spacers on for about 2 1/2 year and the vehicle is only used for off road (road legal) I do however tow a twin axle caravan with it.
due to the off-set of the landrover alloy it does not put too much extra strain on the other components. I had a set of accessory alloys befor
and the off-set made them fill the wheel arches the same.
