SWB seat pedistal/base colour?
What colour should the folding metal seat bases/pedistal be on a SWB 1988? (this is the bit between floor and underneath of actual seat structure that folds, contains fire extinghiser etc)
I suspect they are electro statically coated black satin from factory but it would be nice to know before I spend all that time cleaning and painting..
My car had them sprayed up with some sort of multi colour rust ghoop due to internal rust .. well inside car :shock: :cry: due to windscreen frame failure... but now that is fixed it would be good to get the seat pedistals the right colour... might as well while there is no interior.

As far as I know from the early 460 models the seat bases were painted in a very dark grey colour called "Tiefdunkelgrau". The colourcode is MB 7167.
As from about 1986 there was also another grey colour a bit lighter than the first one, called "Anthrazitgrau". This colourcode was MB 7731. These are not RAL colours
The dark grey colour was also used for some bodyparts.

EDIT: Nevermind - just noticed your gallery listing.
late 80's 460s should all have the darkish grey (but not the almost black one.) seat bases/backs and dashes.the earlier cars had the almost black grey for all the fittings, and the bottom part of the dash was body coloured.middle age 460s had the bottom of the dash in the same almost black grey.
i dont know the paint codes but my local car paint boys can match them no worries.if you need paint go to your local car paint factors and they should be able to mix up the colour in an aerosol for you, including the correct satin finish.if you try and use twin pack you should go for 2-3 thinner mist coats or it will flow and go glossier.

Well I had the original black front grille colour coded .. and it came out as;
Paint code to match 1988 bumpers, grill, door window guides = RAL9011= Graphite Black
But this is gloss and they were satin I think.
I have done gutters, grille, window guides, rear number plate mount, mirrors and bumpers in this .. but 2 pack so now a bit too gloss compared to MB replacement gutter clips .. have to see how it looks.. old rubber is going to really look bad :cry: but I do not want to lose the robustness of unpainted rubber.. (wheel arched car) Since talked to paint supplier and you can get 2 pack in Satin and Matt but it is not a "sealed" surface so rust will break out quicker with this..
Sure the 460's I used were not body coloured.. not had it in parts to investigate but at the moment Hammerite Satin Black seems like the trick.. not gloss, easier to spray and as inside it should last.
So the next "I must get out and drive this car more" question .. is what colour is the dash and rear seat mountings.. they are a Satin medium grey but I need to touch up corners of the dash due to rust from the leaking windscreen.. at the moment I suspect I will just take the whole dash into Halfords (no small parts it seems) and get a close colour pen.. custom paint is £14/tin or 1/2 litre.. and they are very hidden parts..
