Being a dane, the best bid around here if you want to own an affordable G, seems to be buying one of the surplus military 240GD's.

Question is, what can you expect from them - Concensus from my google skills seems to be that the 240 has a fairly small engine compared to pretty much all the other models, but my knowledge on cars is to be honest quite limited. So what can you expect from these old cars, and whats the potential trouble areas you need to watch out for, when you go looking at these?

I've been trying to expand my knowledge base by reading on the forums, lots of great advice, but most most the people in here seems to be into 300 GDs and similar newer models. how does the 240 compare to the 300 GD's etc.

Generally, any information would be welcome - help me to a good start :D

Thanks in advance,

-Tetrian.

Slow...... I'd had to guess how slow. I used to own a 300GDS and it was slow to get going but once going was solid.

I think Twodogs on this forum might have a better idea...

Re: Whats the low down on the 240GD/24

Tetrian Hello ,
As far as I know the 240GD was never sold in the UK .
I own an ex-Norwegian 240GD that I imported to the UK this year as far as I know its the only one in the UK .
to me the performace seems the same as all the other 300GDs I have owned , slow but steady , no problem off road as the axles have a lower ratio .
If you dont mind me asking what cost are military Gs going for in Denmark ?

Yikes, hard to give an exact pricing on them here, but ill try ;)

The 240GD here is very much a collectors item, and so far there hasn't been many out for sale. The army has been circulating at most 10-20 out on the market a year(two auktions a year if i recall it right), some of them highly damaged(accident cars) but yet demand on them has been pretty high, so the prices has been inflated somewhat.

Typical 240 GD from what i have seen(and heard), runs to maybe 40.000-75.000 DKR depending on the car, thats roughly 5.000-10.000 euros.

Now, new thing here, is that the army has found its successors to the 240GD, (270 CDI, some armored versions of the GDs, and EAGLE), Which meant that there was over 60 240GD's up on the auktion last time. My theory, and hope is that this will lower the prices somewhat, but unfortunately í have no clue what prices they where sold for on that auktion, i wouldn't be surpriced to see the same number of vehicles for sale on next auktion though ;)

I'll try to call em up, for the prices at last auktion when i have time.
