Hi All,

I am a new-bie here and would like to seek for your advice on the EXH-TEMP light on after engine-loaded for few minutes going uphill. The EXH-TEMP red-light will go away after you ease the throttle when back to normal road. My G is a 1987 230GE right hand drive imported from Japan.
Is it something to do with the exhaust manifold or the catalyst convertor?

Can I remove the Cat to solve the problem?

Your input is appreciated.

Re: EXH-TEMP??

The exhaust temp light was not a standard MB fitment. It is probably something to do with Japanese emissions laws, likewise I don't believe catalitic convs were fitted standard until 91/92 for unleaded fuel. Yje 230 was designed to run on leaded. Removal would be possible but would depend on your local emissions laws as to whether you would be legal.
I guess that the light coming on means your exhaust is running hot, probably because it has the wrong fuel or timing needs adjusting for lower octaine

Re: EXH-TEMP??

Hi, Thanks for your advice. I am sure the car uses unleaded petrol as mentioned by the importer. The fuel octane should be more than 97 over here. Car is now in the garage for inspection and will post the reason when I get it back.

Thanks again.
