Good day ladies and Gentlemen

We’ve been in and out of GWOC for a few years, just renewed subscription following acquisition today of our 4th G…

Thought it may be interesting to chart our life with the grand Wagen !!

Some 15 years ago my wife got her life long wish and we bought our very first Mercedes, - NOT a G-Wagen but a booooootiful Red 1983 W107-380SL (She watched Hart to Hart and wanted Jennifer’s RED SL) and since then we just fell in love with the Brand.. We still have the SL but hardly driven in fact SORN’d at present what a waste. (anyone interested PM me)..

For work I then bought a W126 500 SEC Duchatelet Carat model pillar-less coupe, which was “Brilliant” and went on forever in absolute luxury..

With a bad drop of Snow up here in Derbyshire, my wife felt frightened with driving the SL. So we looked for 4WD and discovered our first G.. a Red LWB 280 auto, which just was amazing and from then on we were hooked.

That started showing classic signs of rear end rust and the auto box dropped top, (Eddie Rose in Mansfield did a great job) So we looked to upgrade…

Wheelhouse came to the rescue back in 1998 with a nice 1993 300GLD, again, absolutely brilliant and we put 70000 miles on that one as well.

What next, as age creeps up, both with us and the G’ and trying to enjoy different virtues of the G last year we found a very nice 1996 Silver 300GEL on our regular Autotrader search, so did the deal actually without selling the GLD so were proud owners of TWO G’s..

On the NONE G Wagen front as the SEC reached 170K miles a guy knocked on the door and offered me a decent price so away that went (still see it in Derbyshire) and I replaced with a 320 S Class.. for work. Again brilliant value. Last year the S-Class was swapped out for my boyhood dream car a Porsche 911 and as many will know this like the “G “ should have been marketed by Ronnseal as it does everything it says on the Tin…

Back to our G-Wagen love affair, this morning we went to the next stage and took delivery from Nik Wheelhouse of a beautiful late 2000 G500 Almandine Black Classic with P/Ex both the older cars.

(As a side comment sincere word of thanks to James at G-Wagen UK as we also looked at the Tektyte one he had….I hope the change in management at Caversham works out Good luck..)

As the local guy who does our MOT’s say “My god these are built well aren’t they !!

We look forward to banter on the forum and happy to share anytime our experiences in living with G’s for 15 years.

Rob & Sandra Stew

A true Merc fan. I have seen the G500 you have bought at an event several years ago. It is a beauty, love the way the colour changes.

James , Our 911 is a '98 996, I use it as everyday car for work, but looking this afternoon at '96 993 Turbo.

Love yours it's a 73 classic 2.7 yes ??

I think they complement the G so well...

Mine is a 1973 2.4S :) , which is only slightly different from the 2.7 carrera RS. I love the feel / feedback / noise etc of the early Porsches , they make the later ones seem civilised ;)

If you're thinking of a 993 Turbo thats a great car :) , good to see you might be heading back to the aircooled heritage 8) , at least the 993's seem to be holding their value better than 996's
