Power window question

Have a question . Does the 460 share window parts with other mercedes vehicles. ? And by that i mean the lift mechanism for either power or manual door glass.

I would be very suprised if anything was common except maybe the motor as the lifter mechanism is designed around the size and dimensions of the door. No other vehicles have the same door as the G.
But if you are talking about breaking it down to individual components there might be.
What needs replacing?

Nothing Roly but the drivers window is stiff when winding up. Will take it apart and lubricate where necessary. thought a change to power windows would be a good idea. Thought I could finds parts that would work from Local MB wrecker. it seems not. There are no G wagons being wrecked in NZ that I know of. Sprinter engine is still singing along .

you can buy universal electric window conversion kits on e-bay, how much hassle was the sprinter engine fitment?

John,
Clearly you have too much time now the engine is finished...you need another project.
Here is a suggestion. Find out how those 270CDI engine work and what electronics are needed to do a conversion to a G. Then when the holiday companies sell off the new camper vans with the CDIs you can put one in your next G :wink:

I think it will be more complex than putting a 8ohm speaker in the circuit

Thank you for your advice. Will take some measurements when i have the door apart and see if I can adapt something.
Sprinter engine conversion was long winded but end result transformed a gas guzzling 230GE into a very economical powerful vehicle. It would be improved with a 5 speed auto but where do you stop?

I take your point Roly. That engine does not turn up here in the Campervan fleet so waiting on a sharp corner on a gravel road for a German tourist to drift into the path of an oncoming car forgetting he is in a RHD country is not on. Best to source the 320cdi and play with it. Or better still get a G320 from Europe and enjoy it in LHD form. We can do that here if owned and used for 90 days elsewhere. That Sprinter conversion was a one time necessity to make a snail roar!!!!!!!!!!

but there are 190 pounds

Happy with used ones or even broken ones . Just finished fixing a window lift in my XM. I see some on Ebay Germany but for later 463. They are cable operated like so many other cars. Are earlier G meaning 460 cable operated also? Has anyone got a photo to show me the viability of making up my own set.
