Brakes - how good on a 460??
All,
having only driven my 460 swb any distance, can you help me decide if my brakes are up to scratch??
Don't get me wrong it stops but there seems to be less 'bite' and more peddle pressure than I am used to? (compared to my other cars Subaru and VW Passat)
Your thoughts please???
I should also add that the brake components appear to be in good condition (no leaks, nearly new pads/shoes, new disk/drums etc etc and having checked the rear last night nothing seems to be seized). It also pulls up in a straight line.
could be the brake lines have stretched - try swapping them out for braided stainless steel ones. i think someone on ebay is selling some.
Hi any sort of vacuum leak ..and there are plenty of places on a 280 engine where a leak can develop.. will affect the brake servo as well as engine cold start and idle performance which are all vacuum assisted..it makes for a heavy pedal.....partially siezed calipers will reduce initial braking but should show up as very hot front brake disks after a 5 mile drive ...watch you don't get your fingers burnt......

If it's only like that, I would say that the brakes in your G are in tip-top condition.
G's were never regarded as having great brakes and if the stopping power in your G can be described as satisfactory then you have the best brakes around....
Thanks for the "Answer". I will try that on mine. I adjusted the hand brake but after one off road where I used the hand brake in anger (fear!) Its back to full travel. I've been thinking of the fix and you've probaly given me it.
Cheers
cheers Guys.
I feel a bit more reassurred now.
