V8 500
Hey,
I build a V8 500 in my 280GE
When I try to start it no problem but after a while it shuts down and then I have to wait some and I can restart. Temp indicator goes to the red and when it cools down it's ok again. So question is what is wrong?
I used same fuel pump as the 280 as I have read somewhere that they give the same flow. So I'm thinking it has to do something with a safety in the cooling. Does anyone here on the forum can help me?
Already thanks in advance and brdgs.

if it goes to the red then you have a problem. do you have an air lock in the system, what rad did you use. are the inlet and outlet as normal or have you modiifed it.
go for an electric water pump to add flow if your sticking rad in back. An air lock is where you have air in the pipes which prevents water passing its way around the system. The extra piping to the rear should be made in metal if possible, my friend has used is roll over bar as the tubing to route water to rad. I have a 560 using an old 280 rad with no trouble.
How many fuel pumps are you using?
I do not know of the G500 or what ever 500 doner engine you are using, but theG300 had two fuel pumps, may be you need to use two pumps to take the thermal load off just using a single pump............

Hi,
Radiator is custom made and will now be placed in the back.
Inlet has stayed the same. Outlet ( exhaust) manifold has been slightly modified. This in order to route the exhaust to the side as far away as possible from the tranny
What do you mean whit air lock?
I was thinking that maybe the thermostat is not opening and need to be changed or ommited.
Also I'm thinking to put extra waterpump in circuit to obtain better flow to the radiator in the back. Piping still needs to be done. Anybody any sugestions of materials and diameter?
Thanks in advance
Brgds Dirk
