My Drivers side window now needs a little pull to get it to wind up. Before I strip it down I'd like an opion on the cause/solution. The winder handle slips round over the cable. will this just be a tighen everything up job or do I need some replacement parts before I start :?

Cheers

Re: Window Winder

I had a very stiff windup window. Couple of issues.. one the outer window to door top seal+steel had rusted and swelled. This dragged/scratched the window. The other problem was the winder mechanism. I took the winder mechanism out and spent 20 minutes working grease into it; result is you can easily wind window up.. in fact it is a little vunerable to a pushing palm of hand   (in downwards way  ).. but you can wind the window with one finger.. Before this I managed to break the knob of the winder  If you have managed to get to the point of jumping teeth it maybe too late to the land of greasing.. the mechanism is a curly wire spring with felt trapped on it in a C shaped tube.. and the winder is inside a steel pressing which has teeth to engage in the "expanded/stretched" spring coils.. if it jumps you may not recover... but 20 mins in the greasing may recover it... tip is to used gaffer tape or similar looped over the top of the door and onto inside and outside of glass to hold up window while you remove the winder mechanism.
