G300 1993.

I have just returned from a 15 mile round trip. I've turned the engine off, but something very noisy is still running - perhaps an electric motor or pump maybe? The only way I can shut it off is by disconnecting the battery, which I have now done. The noise appears to be coming from an area below the air filter assembly, so to the right of the engine block (viewed from the front of the car).

Any suggestions?

Hi stuck starter motor solenoid (located on the side of the starter motor)would be my first guess is there a big splark when you touch the battery teminal to the battery ? to remedy remove the starter and get it overhauled (about GBP 150) but more if the armature is damaged.
