i've been given a 230GE (1984, i think!) - mechanically she seems to be in good shape apart from the rather major problem that you lose power above 2000 revs!! she doesn't stall or anything but just won't provide any power. the previous owner did have her checked out by a mercedes mechanic but they couldn't find the problem and i've also had her looked at.... but no joy!!

i have driven her around and you can go through the gears but trying to get any more than 2000 revs seems to be impossible. she's been sitting in a barn for the past year as i am at a loss as to what to do with her. any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated (or if anyone knows of a decent mechanic in Somerset) - unfortunately i am not mechanically minded, so if you can help out please can you keep it in non-techy terms if poss!!

Maybe it's due to fuel starvation due to old fuel lines i.e. when more fuel is sucked from the fuel tank, the rubber fuel line bends and blocks the flow.

Hi if the fuel pump drones when you switch the ignition on start with the fuel filter which is located just in front of the fuel tank... remove and renew. because it is a pressure system any decayed hoses will tend to leak and are easily spotted.also check the accelerator linkage there is a plastic/nylon fitting that can break which results in travel at the pedal and not at the engine no noise and no restricted accelerator movement then it gets more technical regarding ignition timing and fuel / air mixture. so try the simple things first.
