I have a problem of erratic tick over, either too fast or stalling unless I manually hold the revs at 850 to 1000 for about 30 seconds. Its ok when I first start the engine, it occurs if I stop and start the engine again. Any one expirienced similar problems? Any ideas? I have changed the rotary idle stabalisation valve to no effect but its hose on the engine side was split, should I change this item? really haven't a clue whats wrong.

Hi vacuum leaks from split or perished hoses will create the problem you describe.sounds like the idle mixture is not right... check every hose / pipe in the vacuum system and the black rubber cap on the vacuum test point to the back of the inlet manifold near the bulkhead.....

Thanks Fixwin, I have checked the system for leaks but not found any and the problem is one of consistency sometimes it runs perfectly other times to fast or stalling, what I did notice was loose insulation on the cylinder head temperature sender so I will replace this next and if that is not right then it will have to be seen by a professional.
