Hi, Now I know this has been covered before but I can't find any reference in the forum. At long last I have given up finding the G I want in the UK. Also I have to say the GL does not float my boat. So I am going to push the boat out & try to buy an 06/07 G (Xeon) from Germany. However I am completely ignorant of the process! so help please from 1 of our members who has done it. I have lots of questions, vat, import duty, registration, any physical changes needed for UK, sat-nav configuration ect. Help please, save me from buying a Range Rover! If anyone wants to they can e-mail me direct on coldwar@hackgreen.co.uk
Danke
Rod

Rod, also mark can help you. When you do buy you must get the certificate of conformaty from the dealer to enable you to get it registered, without this its a right pain.

Re: import from germany

If your in the market for such a late G, it may be worth getting a price on a new UK spec one.

Diplomatic & tourist sales

May be a few quid more, but they'll be no hassle, not that theres too much trouble importing, just a weee bit time consuming.

Re: import from germany

I have done it. If it is less than six months old you have to pay UK VAT but can claim the German VAT back I think.

Re-regerstering isn't a problem, just takes a bit of time.

You will need different head lights and swap the fog / reverse lights over. The speedo should have a digital display that can go from Km to MPH.

However, as you are thinking of getting an 06/07, why don't you just order a new UK spected one from MB. You will also have the benefit of a UK MB warranty. This is what Rich Simms did.

Re: import from germany

Just finished costing a high spec new 2007 spec from diplomatic sales in UK. It works out at £62480.97 for 320cdi 5 door & £62161.25 for a 320cdi Cabriolet. Basic price of £48918.37+delivery for a G320cdi Cabriolet & £48278.91 + delivery for a G320cdi 5 door, but Oh those options do add up! I asked for delivery in Graz but they said MB no longer allows them to offer that option & the above costed price includes a whopping £1198.98 delivery charge. They do not offer the option of a 400cdi. only 320cdi or 500 petrol or G55. Anyone any ideas? Anyone imported new from Germany cheaper ?

Hi Rod, what will you be using you G for? off roading, school runs, expeditions? Do you want power or economy and do you need a lond wheel base?
If your pricing up 2 door soft tops alongside 5 door estates I guess you haven't made youe mind up which you want yet?

Would be good to see A G320 on the lane from hell!

Re: import from germany

Quite right! I have not made my mind up yet. I want the G for fun mainly. as I have the firms van ( also an MB product a Vaneo, yes really!) for stuff, and the wifes car for shopping ect,I quite like the idea of a convertible, but would have to drive one to see. At least there are not too many about, the last one I saw in the flesh was in Graz, & they can tow up to 2850kg according to MB. MB now publish a full G hardback brouchure on the full range in english. Mine arrived in the post today!

I know what you mean - I almost bought one before I got sensible and bought a LWB. But a friend is looking at buying two G320 cabrios in Germany in the next few months - a big saving over the UK. But they are very noisy.

Surprisingly they have always published a full brochure in English.

Re: import from germany

Thanks for the reply Maxwell. What sort of saving is your friend expected to make on German purchase? Yes I have heard from Tony B that they are noisy, but MB reckon the seals & soundproofing is better on the new models. (they would say that!)only a drive would tell.
