Blowing the Trumpet
Just wanted to broadcast, what a BRILLIANT resource GWOA is!... worth every cent of the membership fee! As a mechanically disadvantaged She-owner, I rely on local garages to do repairs. I 'trained' my previous garage to use GWOA contacts for parts on my previous G, but current G goes to closer garage, owner prides himself on knowing far more than the customer (specially the female variety, we're so dumb, dontcha know)... so he's ignored my advice - until today, when he had to admit  he's got the wrong rear springs TWICE, and his latest order means i have to wait another week for repair to be done.
So I meekly said, shall i try GWOA then? And hey presto, found reference including phone number, part number, and price range, within minutes on the GWOA forums (thankyou jonnyboy & fixwin - wonders of nature, both of you!), phoned lovely helpful chap, paid online, upshot = courier delivery tomorrow and the whole package costing a third less than the garage's normal supplier. :D
All the seasoned members already know what a great club GWOA is without me babbling on about it, so I thought i'd 'plug' it in the new members' section - you won't regret joining! :D :P
Nice thought
long live GWOA :P
and P3.............

its not often we get praise, more the other way. Thanks for the response
Very much appreciated...
Thanks - your words are much appreciated by all those who volunteer their time for the club.
Sounds Good!!!
The 'problem' with the Internet is that people view the information as free and therefore, often do not consider the amount of time and effort that goes into building the resource. The same can be said for forums and the technical information compiled on them; furthermore, the people who take the time to answer questions - specifically the myriad of "I'm new and would like advice on a purchase..." type questions.
I have some first hand experience of running a forum and providing information; this coupled with the admin of an enthusiasts car site can, at times, be a thankless task. It doesn't look like a lot of work but it is.
I found GWOA whilst looking for a G-Wagen to purchase and after less than 24-hours paid the annual fee. The way I see it, the information on the site and advice of owners is well worth the £25. Before the Internet and access to information, I'd have been happy to pay £25 pound for solid advice, so why not do it now? Support of the site is going to cost you far less than buying the wrong car or getting stung by a dodgy/uninformed mechanic.
Anyway, as per the OP, I thank you all for the information I have accessed thus far and hope to become a more active member once I've found my own G.
Enough of the infomercial ;)
Thanks and keep up the great work,
Simon
Who is Fixwin ??/ :-)
GWOA is the best organized, most professionaly run, and best formally structured automotive owner's group I have ever belonged to.
Anyone who is a member that takes the time to review the balance sheet should understand that the organisation is not organized for profit and the fees collected are necessary for the upkeep of this great resource.
It was worth the annual membership fee to meet someone that had the same model G that I was after. If it is a rare model, you can't put a price on that.
In any event, if you are interested in a G, it is easily worth the fee for pointers that will help with pre-purchase inspection.
Just my .02 pence from an American on the other side of the pond.
The management and board, in my estimation, are tops. I only wish I had the full benefit of being a member and having access to the resources that have been physically developed and put in place in U.K. and the surrounding territories.
These guys came up trumps for me big time when I had my crash. Some of the information/parts etc I got have easily paid for my years membership
I won't hear a bad word against the GWOA and I am one of the newer members, so it is not as if I have known everyone for years.
Will fight anyone who disagrees........
Hear, Hear....

Hi All, similar story to this lady owner. I have a great local garage but they have never worked on a G Wagon before. Had a recent fuel line problem. Had the garage owner call Gavin Helme (standing in for Rakesh). Gavin gave him the solution and sold him the parts in record time and at a good price. In summary, what a brilliant service and what decent people. Thank you. Maurice
Maurice,
Many thanks for the positive feedback and experience -
