i am in process of swapping 300 gd normally aspirated engine to turboed version from a 123 salon as the poor whether has allowed me time .does any one know if i need to change the sump on the new engine ,only i was told i should do this once. the salon version has a pan at bottom witch will split off ,the original dosent apart from that they are about same shape and capacity iam sure their are lots of you will know every thing about this thanks in advance j walker sorry about spelling in a rush going out now

Hi J,
Yes I am sure that there was an important difference in the car type sump and the "G" Wagen one -- to do with ensuring that the oil pick up would still function on gradients and side slopes. If you search there was some detailed coverage of this topic, incl photos of a modified car type sump if I recall, though said mod was to get it to fit NOT to ensure that it worked the same as the proper "G" Wagen sump.

thanks marcus i seem to remember that thread was it about a 6 cylinder engine? kashi123 your references cover subject brilliantly even photo of different oil pans proving this site comes up with the goods 9 times out of ten thanks j walker

"Dai" over on the P3 forum has an interesting take on the stamped steel pan vs. the cast alloy G-specific pan. Have a look.
