I was trying to change the leather gearknob yesterday to fit a darkwoodknob. I tryed to unscrew the leatherknob but it wouldnt get loose a bit! After a while struggeling with this the i accedentley unscrewed the gearshaft from the fitting to the gearbox..(feelt like a total idiot). Is it even possible to change the knob on the 463 auto? or is it just stuck?

Regards/

I think the whole gearstick is replaced including the chrome part, two locknuts hold it in place so it sounds like you have removed it already?, When you have the new part you will see it is made to fit into the gearbox and be tightened up straight so all the gears are positive on the gate.

Okay, You are probobly right about the chromepart... yes i accedently unscrew the lockingbult.. but i was able to tighten it again as i havent recieved my new gearknob yet. Its quite hard to reach the locking bult, is it possible to remove the gearindicator thing? (23RNDP)

I think once you have taken the gearshift surround off (use a plastic wegde or fingernail to loosen), you will see how the gate is clipped on in a few places so you can remove this carefully and get to the locking nuts properly, these parts are quite fragile sometimes so take your time to be sure how everything goes back together especially the P N R D 3 2 parts are lined up etc. Cheers Alex

The gearshift surround is the plastic square around the gearstick, you have to remove this first (not the wooden trim this is screwed down)

Will look good, It is a nice way to freshen up the interior on Mercedes, also you can get a matching wood/leather gearstick for the transfer (4x4) stick 8)

Very nice G you have got :D I like the picture you have in the gallery with the wildboar towed behind it, probably best not to put it in the boot in case it is not dead! although if you shoot it with a Brenneke you can be sure

Nice to hear that you like my G! I like it too! :)
I was towing it just because i didnt want to mess up my nice and clean interior :) I can guarantee the boar was dead after a well placed bullet from my Blaser R93 .30-06!
I can see i didnt have my new taillights mounted on that picture. I replaced them with the 2006 taillight. (clear position glass) Great lift to the whole exterior

.30-06 will do it for sure. There are more wildboar in England now than ever before they escape from farms and can be very dangerous, a friend on the south coast had to shoot one of theirs because it escaped and was attacking his wife. He managed to get the rifle in time but she got quite badly bitten.

that sounds bad! was it wounded when he attacked?
The wildboars in sweden is also spreading out fast even thou the hunting has intencefied. But its still not often someone is attacked during the huntings. The dogs are in danger time to time..
tough animals for sure! gives an exciting hunting experiance :)

(A bit off-topic but still interesting) :)

Way off topic for sure :D Was a big old boar so probably a bit angry at being fenced in all that time! definatley more exciting hunting than rabbits they will not try to get you if you miss

Re: changein gearknob on a 463 auto?

Now, back to topic! :) I got my Brabus darkwood shifter today and now its mounted. It took some time but its worth not rushing due to many cables, switches and plastic covers.
When I was done and had all switches and panels on place I noticed the light indicating the gears didnt work!!!
I unscrewd the whole thing again checking the cables and everything seemed okay. After a while swearing i managed to pull the bulb holder out from its "hole" to check it. It was Broken!! i replaced it with the bulb from the cigarettlighter and now its working!! :)
have to find a new bulb for the ligther..
Anyway the new gearnob looks really nice!! perfect! im just waiting for my chromed gearframe to arive. alot easyer to change :)
