changein gearknob on a 463 auto?
I was trying to change the leather gearknob yesterday to fit a darkwoodknob. I tryed to unscrew the leatherknob but it wouldnt get loose a bit! After a while struggeling with this the i accedentley unscrewed the gearshaft from the fitting to the gearbox..(feelt like a total idiot). Is it even possible to change the knob on the 463 auto? or is it just stuck?

I think the whole gearstick is replaced including the chrome part, two locknuts hold it in place so it sounds like you have removed it already?, When you have the new part you will see it is made to fit into the gearbox and be tightened up straight so all the gears are positive on the gate.
I think once you have taken the gearshift surround off (use a plastic wegde or fingernail to loosen), you will see how the gate is clipped on in a few places so you can remove this carefully and get to the locking nuts properly, these parts are quite fragile sometimes so take your time to be sure how everything goes back together especially the P N R D 3 2 parts are lined up etc. Cheers Alex
The gearshift surround is the plastic square around the gearstick, you have to remove this first (not the wooden trim this is screwed down)
Will look good, It is a nice way to freshen up the interior on Mercedes, also you can get a matching wood/leather gearstick for the transfer (4x4) stick 8)
Very nice G you have got :D I like the picture you have in the gallery with the wildboar towed behind it, probably best not to put it in the boot in case it is not dead! although if you shoot it with a Brenneke you can be sure
.30-06 will do it for sure. There are more wildboar in England now than ever before they escape from farms and can be very dangerous, a friend on the south coast had to shoot one of theirs because it escaped and was attacking his wife. He managed to get the rifle in time but she got quite badly bitten.
Way off topic for sure :D Was a big old boar so probably a bit angry at being fenced in all that time! definatley more exciting hunting than rabbits they will not try to get you if you miss
Glad you got it sorted out in the end, you can post pictures on imageshack.us and then copy the link provided into the box on the gwoa site. Cheers Alex
Okay, You are probobly right about the chromepart... yes i accedently unscrew the lockingbult.. but i was able to tighten it again as i havent recieved my new gearknob yet. Its quite hard to reach the locking bult, is it possible to remove the gearindicator thing? (23RNDP)
