Your fuel mixture could be on the lean side, for it to pop on over run.

How much hassle is it to source and stick in a 2.8? yours has head issues (as does the owner), and is struggling with the G90's. Seeing as your gassing it anyway the extra fuel useage wont be an issue.

see thats landrover talk, always wanting to tinker and sawp engines. I had both 230 and 280, yes the 230 is a little lathargic but dont underestimate it, for me the 280 was a little better up hills and in rough stuff but its not worth the hassle, sell the 230 and buy a 280, but for what you do it just aint worth it.

Nope I'm happy with my 67 pit ponies escaping from my 2.5 NA (normally asthmatic)!

Perhaps your correct about my approach to Si's problem, but thats 'coz Lanny engines are ten bob each on Ebay. Obviously I dont know how easy it is to source a MB spare engine or if saloon car engines can be used instead, it was just food for thought. Like you say the 2.3 is/was pretty perky with the stock sized tires on but Si is now running 7.50/16 Goodyear G 90's which are a 10 ply heavy steel sidewall. He'd allready commented on it and I noticed it whilst driving to Stanage t'other week-the performance has been really blunted.

N.B.

Si-I was talking with Damian (Mr Bobtail)-he's familiar with Sprinter engine heads and has done a lot of top ends/chains, do you want me to chase him for a price?

Re: Slight backfire.......

right backfire cured was that wierd valve on the passenger inner wing its supposed to sense the throttle being shut and stops/controls flow of excess fuel at high revs. just blanked of the pipe going to the inlet manifold and hey presto no backfire!!!!

Injector man said it was some fuel effiecincy device when de accelerating i just laughed at the word fuel efficiency its a G
