halfshaft seal?

hi can anyone help me? my G failed its test as the braking wasnt what it should be,when my mechanic checked it out he found that the seal on the halfshaft is gone and was greasing the brake shoes!! mercedes say they only get the seal with a bearing kit which is special order and expensive.

is there anywhere i can get the seal individually?
my G is a 460 300GD 1985 if the vin is needed i can get it but at the moment i cant remember it :)

I have changed my rear wheel bearings recently and the half shaft seal is not in the kit supplied, also is not on the EPC picture (463) of the axle tube as far as merc can see, I have got to take the old shredded ones in to merc to identify?? They supplied a really thin bearing seal when asked like a 3 inch diameter rubber band, the ones I want are thick rubber a bit bigger than a milk bottle top that fit around the halfshaft. Maybe someone with the EPC can interpret it for us. Cheers Alex

Part supplied in error (which was already in the kit and seals the wheel bearing in, thin rubber band as mentioned) VA003 997 64 48

Hi any specialist vendor of seals and bearings will be able to match the seal you want-but you have to remove it in such a way as to not damage the profile..we get seals to pattern much cheaper than MB rgds

Thanks fixwin, they are removed one is in one piece the other in about 3!! they were on the shafts when withdrawn from the axle tube, will see what I can get probably the same as a 308D van seal or similar.
