I have always dreamt of owning a G Wagon. Thank goodness an opportunity came in November 2006. I now own a 1997 G 320. Not a bad one at all!

Well taken care of, it has only done 60,000km and alls running fine in it. It is a LWB auto transmission. Very good take off speed and great engine too.

I however notice that its very thirsty on fuel and i have been advised to replace my exhaust system. During my my last test on fuel consumption a full tank did about 240km. Can anyone advise me on what to do? Has anyone had any expereince regarding this? If i must change the entire exhaust system, what would it cost? I am billed to travel to London in June and hope to do some shopping for my G...where can i possibly buy parts to replace?

Hey, beside this worry, the G is a great one to own and i am happy to join the GWOA!

Re: Fuel Consumption

Welcome aboard. You might not get any response as not too many people (actually none that I know of) own a G320 petrol.

But if you drive aggressively (and I presume using AC in Lagos) then 240km while perhaps a little high doesn't seem that off for a G320. It also depends on what you consider a full tank. The empty fuel light goes on with something like 25% left in the tank.

There are supposedly harder on fuel than a G500 when driven aggressively as they only have 6 cylinders so are working harder.

As for shopping for parts in London this won't be easy. As they don't officially sell it here you would need to preorder parts for your arrival. In which case either get MB Tax Free (They are the only official MB dealer who imports the G) to order the parts for you or order parts through somebody like ORC.

Re: Fuel Consumption

Thanks a lot Max. You just made my week.

Maybe I get carried away worrying when i see the empty fuel light come on. In that case I will worry less now.

As for aggresive driving in Lagos with the AC on...man you are right!

Can you assist with MB Tax Free and ORC website or contact details?

Again thanks a lot for insight.

MB Tax Free - I don't know what the contact details are for their parts dept but contact them and ask.

There are a few others but I don't know their names. Hopefully someone else will pitch in.
