OK here's a new one on me. My local Merc. Stealer claims they are not allowed to divulge part numbers in case I then decide to sue them when they give me the wrong number. In other words they are operating and maintaining a probably illegal monopoly which prevents me (a customer but who gives a stuff about that!!?) from buying parts from a cheaper source.

I need a new viscous fan coupling for a 463. Merc. price £243+VAT. I know of a supplier (Technical Services UK) who could provide the same part for less but he wants the part number to confirm, seemed easy until I rung the corrupt t**ts at Merc.

Anyway is there anyone kind enough out there to look up their EPC for me and provide a part number please.

Chassis No = WDB 46332827075218

Cheers,
Russ

I agree with that no.

Russ, how do you tell the viscous coupling is not working correctly. I must admit, that although mine is locked in the mornings and disengages after 5 mins, it never connects again when the engine gets hot. When is it meant to connect again?

Re: Corrupt Merc. Dealers - Viscous fan coupling

Mike, Thanks for the info.

Roly,

It's engaging / disengaging fine. My problem is that it has a slight but annoying rumble from the bearings. I assumed it was the water pump which has been replaced (no bad thing as I had the rad out anyway and it was only £46 for a genuine Merc. One) The noise is however still there. If you stop the fan (when the engine temp. is still low of course) and put lateral pressure on it the noise comes and goes. So it’s got to be the fan bearing.

Try http://www.technical-services.co.uk/technical.htm for info. about testing visco fans.

If it comes to it I may just fit a couple of electric Pacet fan’s but I will try to get a price using the above part number.

Thanks again Guy’s.
