460 1988 Transfer Gearbox bush
part number of kit (3 washers,nut, bolt and rubber bush) = A460 280 15 86

Which way around does this bush fit?

It has 3 small depressions on one side and you can see the metal support ring; this is a little higher than the other side and I suspect should be upper most.
It has a full circumference depression on the other side

I had corrosion between gearbox and middle thick washer that was tilting gearbox by 3mm or so.. when I tried to pull it apart the head sheared off the bolt so ended up drilling out the rubber between the 2 parts of the bush and pulling it down. Yet to see if a trolley jack will push it back into place and it looks like it was inserted from above.. I could try another bush to see which way around it is fitted but suspect all the bolts are siezed in their bushes.. :(

Answer; the load goes on the side with the 3 depressions.

I was working on the rear passenger bush on a rhd car which is below the gearbox. I fitted it with 3 depressions down.. and the centre bush stuck up too much so that the thick large washer would not contact the full face of the bush. Removed bush (wreckers bar from above while still lubricated with rubber assembly fluid) and tried other way around.. then the washer sat on most of the bush face. Only took about 100-150 kg to fit the bush with fresh paint and rubber assembly fluid (free commerical sample).

Seems this is only on the passenger side (rhd) bushes.. you can see the same at the other front bush above the transfer box where the 3 depressions would be downwards. I explored the driver's side and the bushes are symetrical.

Oh and the bolts supplied were 16mm head instead of original 17mm head .. so get out your 5/8" spanner if you don't have a 16mm one.
