Hi, jumped in G this morning turned key, just got a series of clicks!! tried again no luck just kept clicking. It sounded like it wanted to start, all lights etc working, is it possibly a starter motor problem, bloody typical its booked in for a service tommorow, but now willl need it recovered to garage, any suggestions/advice.

thanks in advance..regards Frannie.

Re: non starter

See if you can get somebody to help you tow start it to save paying to take it to a garage on a truck, once the battery has been charged up a bit see if it still clicks when you try to start it (at the repairers), could be a knackered battery or a problem with the starter motor solenoid. Nice dog by the way :D

Re: non starter

Check battery terminals, if these are secure and tight, check battery voltage, should not be below 12.4 volts, or use a power pack or with a jump line, try to start. If starter still clicks then most likely the starter has a fault. Ohh, check also the earth straps, battery to body and engine to body. If, with the jump wires you are able to start, the Battery will need replacing or charging.
Get the alternator output checked, if this has been undercharging, the battery will be low. In which case charge up the battery and relace or recondition the alternator, most likely the alternator's regulator is faulty, a good starter/alternator specilaists should be able to supply a v/regulator at around £20-£25. M/benz will charge £50.

Re: non starter

get someone under it with a light hammer and give the starter
a few taps whilst trying to start , along with jump leads or booster pack at same time
