Can you post the exploded parts diagram for a 2001 G500 electric window assembly (driver’s side).

There seem to be two cables coming from the motor which sits in the bottom corner of the door. One goes to the bottom of the window. The cable housing has a black plastic “cylinder” on the end. (This looks like it is two parts which screw together and locate the cable to a retaining point. If you imagine two cylinders, one has a hexagonal head, with threads coming out of one allowing it to be screwed into the other). The cable then comes out of the housing and goes round a pulley and attaches to the bottom of the window. This pulls the window down.

The top is exactly the same. My problem is that the black plastic “cylinder” on the top assembly has broken in half, where it seems to join) and the cable housing is trying to get through the retaining point (basically a bit of metal with a hole in it). This has caused the plastic cable cover to be pushed back about 5cm exposing the metal cable housing.

It looks to me like I need a new full top cable assembly with the cylinder. I am not sure if the top and bottom are two ends of the same cable or two different cables.

Anyway, it looks like a job for the robbers at MB, unless of course the drawings show it to be a simple job to fit a new top cable.

If you have the how to fit the new cable part from the workshop manual that would also help.

Anyone else is welcome to offer advice etc.

And I do now thinking to take some pics when I had the door panel off. Describing this is a bit like trying to describe an elephant.

Thanks in advance.

Without the precise VIN, I cannot be sure but I am enclosing the screen printouts of the requested parts diagram of a post 2000 G500.

As you can see, there is a single assembly per side. If I remember right, these cost some € 105 per side which compares very favourably with the € 360 per side that cost for early 463 GWagens.

Thanks. I think I may have to leave it to MB to sort out. The part that has broken must cost pence.

I can give you my vin if that helps.
