Axle Breathers
Having only a Russek book for my 300GD I'll be asking a few detail questions!
On the front nearside shocker mount I have a collection of hard plastic pipes meeting in an air lock device. I'm assuming theses are the breather pipes for the gear box, transfer boxes and axles? is the height these the limiting factor in the ford depth of the G, other than the air intake? Have people moved these higher or does the air lock device work?
I ask because I exceeded the recomended fording depth while taking a short cut round a bridge....woke the wife up! Good job the G doors are still waterproof and dosen't the back get a bit floaty!!!!!
The old memory is playing tricks with me at the mo, I thought the breather pipes for the axles and g/box were the metal ones mounted at the bulk head; near-side of the vent box.
The plastic tubes you are talking about should be for the fuel charcoal canister. Do not hold me to that just yet, I will do a little more research and get back to you.
The tubes are generally mounted much higher than the Fording level any way. Sounds like you have exceeeded the recommended level.

This is correct. See attached picture
Thanks for the feedback   . I do not have a bunch of metal pipes as in the Picture   . What I do have is this shown below. I'm pretty sure these are the breathers. The G is an 83 300GD. You can see the fuel pipes to the left. These are alot lower than the ones in Mortinsons pic.I don't recall seeing metal pipes in the G I nearly bought the other day. That was a D Reg 87 I think. I guess I'll have to follow them back next time I'm under the G. :? :?
