Dear All,

I have test drove the first G wagen in my life and the car which is 3800 pounds seems to be very good value. It has full Mercedes Service History and body work is rustfree and good condition.

However there are a few problems I noticed, and I am wondering whether these are common problems or is the car meant to be this way.

1) It is a 230GE 1987. When I shift from First to Second there are no problems, however when I shift from Second to Third the car shivers and vibrates, this is a similar case with shifting from Third to Fourth. I recon I change gear at around 2500 - 3000 rpm. Is this a problem I should look into?

2) The needle indicating the petrol tank amount keeps on shifting slightly (like the speedometer, up and down at low speed) Is this a common problem or is it a problem I should not be too worry about? If so how much would it cost to put right?

3) The owner has replaced the original engine fan with an electric fan (don't know if it is Kenlowe) Has anyone have the experience of this? Will the engine overheat in the Summer?

Does 3200 (advertise at 3800) pounds sound reasonable for a 230GE 1987 with 110000 miles on clock with Full Mercedes Service History?

Many Thanks for all of you who read this, I would appreciate and value you comments. Hope someone can help.

Angus

3. If it works OK no big deal. Have you tested that it cuts in when the temp. rises?

2. Probably no big deal. Maybe a dodgy earth?

1. Doesn’t sound good. Could be slipping clutch, engine mounts or transfer box mounts.

Thanks Russ280,

Do you recon it is worth the hassle, since it is a little overprice for a 230GE?

1.engine mounts rot, I had the same trouble wih my 230.
2. nothing to worry about
3.i did the same with mine, worked perfectly.

considering the above knock him down as engine mount replacement will cost you £300 with labour.
