what oil should I refill my rear diff with?

Since giving the car a good wash down, I have noticed a very small whine from the rear diff when I apply power. If I stop, engage the centre then rear diff lock, then remove both diff locks, the noise goes away. I am assuming the whine is to do with the rear diff lock. I have not yert crawled under the car, but is the diff lock mechanism easy to lubricate?

Hi from your description and if the whine is very light the difflock actuator may not be operating to max travel..accumulation of mud / dirt that may shorten its stroke...pitted or corroded piston rod restricting full travel...would pull the drain plug and look for metal particles or a grey paste on the plug and on your little finger when you poke it in the plughole....a sign that the difflock mechanism has been fouling the diff possibly due to actuator short travel...if oil is contaminated flush with squeezy bottle and a short plastic tube full of petrol through the filler hole on the side of the diff until clean.leave for an hour or so to breath then replenish with Hypoid gear SAE 90
