Re: Oil change including oil, fuel filters.

You will need about 7 litres of Dexron II ATF fluid, the auto transmission filter you should get from Mercedes and get the rubber transmission sump gasket at the same time. Use Mobil 1 for the engine oil you will need alot for a 500 GE (at least two 4 litre bottles) and get the oil filter and seal ring for the drain plug from Mercedes when you order the other bits.

Just a thought, but when I done the Auto trans fluid change and filter recently, the Mercedes stores person advised me NOT to bother buying the gasket, ( at about £30.00 ) said if halfway careful it was reusable, and Lo it was indeed reusable.

If the gasket is knackered you need another car to go and buy one while your G wagen is sitting in bits in the garage  Also I might want to buy this car one day so use the Mobil 1 !!

Well yes that does make sense then, your prospective purchase then, re the gasket I had travelled 50 miles to source, phone calls had me fobbed off, but he was on the money, one could effect a temp repair with a silone type product anyway surley ?

I see your point Marcus they are not that helpful at Mercedes usually, the way I look at it is you are saving the money on labour by doing the work yourself so might aswell use some of that on better parts etc, sure you can save more money by using cheaper oils and reusing parts but I like to know these jobs are done and will stay done (also this is because we love our G wagens, I am not as careful with other makes but then my jeans are worth more than some of the cars I work on sometimes!!) :D
