The leather gear knob on my manual shifter has worn through. Is this leathe knob interchangable with any other Mercedes cars or can I buy replacements anywhere?

Unfortunately, the EPC does not list the leather-covered knob separately, but together with the gear lever and the leather gaiter. The set is part number A1242671110 Handle Leather 28534/01 and it costs € 130.93 + VAT in Europe.

Funnily, the plastic option can be sold separately (up to chassis number 090089) and it costs just € 18.80 + VAT.

As you can see, all these are W124 parts and are therefore shared with the E Class from 1986 to 1995.

I imagine finding a Merc E-class with manual & black leather at a breakers is not going to be easy seeing as most were probabally auto.

Hi all,
It maybe too late for this but have seen leather gearshift gaiters with wooden knob for sale on ebay with a german MB Dealer at 49 euro + p & P

Only thing is no gear diagram on top of gear knob.

Regards,

Mike

Hi Steve

Loving the G-wagen ( except an annoying oil leak from the upper rear right of the engine  ) , it complements the rest of my cars well.

Not doing a huge milage as the fuel economy hurts a bit. Of course the time when I realise I really need it is when I have a bit of soil testing / offroad work to do :)

Re: 463 Manual gear knob

Hi All,

Eventually got around to fit the timber handle onto the shift stick. No worries easy to do, even for me.

But and theres generally always a butt.

The leather boot that comes supplied with the new handle is too small and will not fit. Its close but you will break the frame if you try to force it on. I even tried wetting it to get it to soften and expand. No Luck. Still though the timber handle with the std gaiter looks well enough for me and matches the other one nicely.

Regards,

Mike
