Having at last restored my 280 to working status went for a play yesterday in the welsh hills near me. Started off in the Corwen car wash! photo's later, went over the Wayfarers track across the Berwyn mountains and down through a v shaped gully at which point the guy in front had a spot of bother   :D

Me and the G sailed through next followed by a couple of tricked up 110's that were a little nervous :D :D

All in all a good day organised at the last minute by some chaps from the Landrovernet forum which Russ let me know about.

I will definitly be going again and will let you know if anything is coming up.

Re: Tripped up disco!

Yes a good day out. We went the clockwise route and didn’t meet a single other vehicle on our lanes. Unlike your group John who appeared to be on the M25 of greenlanes AKA the wayfarer.

Shame we had to leave early (yet more partying, feeling a little tired today!!)

A couple of pic's from our group, well me actually, who really wants to look at LR's apart of course the unfortunate ones as per previous post :D :D

No. 21 years old and the door seals are still doing their job. Apparently Disco door seals have a “feature”. A gap at the bottom to allow the water out  Why is it in there in the 1st place springs to mind :?

Re: Tripped up disco!

Sorry to be a pain, these are your standard G’s, (except the tires) no height extension, no leaking (like the point of the special LR Feature  ), no special suspension etc, etc?

Yours enquiringly

Re: Tripped up disco!

Spider,

Absolutely standard apart from in my case 80/20 off road tyres, would need a snorkel if going any deeper than in the in my post on 30th dec photo, further across it went six inches deeper and on checking the tidemark in the engine bay it was about 3/4 inch below the air intake

Other than that no issues, mind you I wouldn't want to take a shiny down some of those tracks. I was being a bit to ambitious above the v gully where the disco feel over on another trip and the axle articulation was such that it mine fell over  however I was saved from the ignomy of the fallen over club by a sturdy tree that allowed me to bounce upright again   the only damage a bit of trim covering the roof seam at the back and some shocked passengers

Re: Tripped up disco!

I've thought of a way to do deep fords in the TD's, it's so simple i don't know why no one has suggested it. I'm going to do them in reverse, that way even the fog lights will remain dry.

One thing though, can i try the theory out in your G first.

Re: Tripped up disco!

Amazing! Truly amazing   . The air intakes on my 500 are just below the Hood line, one assumes that this would be the absolute max. I could wade?

I have chatted to Jesus and for wading he suggested snorkles - which may be a nice addition once the 'off road' bug comes back!

Oh I cant wait for the next day out (but know it will end in tears - mine  )

Just to trump the 22yrs my 83 G is still dry under those conditions! Looking at the seals you wouldn't believe it.

That's correct. But you're forgetting that I also added: water is only good for frogs!

thanks Huss.
Military 4x4 s enter the water from the landing crafts in REVERSE. Mark has a good point there.

As John says more or less standard. Mine has a 40mm lift which does make a noticeable difference. There is a route that I use frequently that results in a cross axles situation. Before the lift I would always have to engage the rear diff lock to get past it (one wheel would be dangling in the air) With the lift it just does it without the need to use the diff lock. Having said that I believe it's a little tricky to lift a 463 without modifying the front prop shaft.

Out of the box G's are just amazing. I know people with tricked up LR's or hybrid machines that will leave my 280G for dead but they have spent thousands (maybe in to the £10K's) and spent many hundreds of hours to get them to that standard. Plus of course they constantly have fix / carry on modding them :D :D
