Couple of questions ... coolant level, should it be level with the seam in the coolant reservoir ?

As you might know I'm trying to find the source of my wet carpets in the drivers footwell. Is it possible for engine coolant to leak here? The reason I ask is when I removed the original damp overmat, the fluid that drained from it was blue / green. Today my wife has just got in from driving the G & reported the furthest right warning light in the left bank of dash lights ( which I assume is the coolant level - box with waves in it ) flickered on. I have just checked the level & it is about 1/2 inch below the seam on teh reservoir. So could this loss ( I'm not sure how much its dropped as I didn't really check it when I bought it) be due to a leak under the dash?

on mine the coolant level mark is cast into the plastic header tank obove the centre seam..I posted you on possible sources of Green fluid (antifreeze colour) or maybe screenwasher fluid coming in past the spindles.now with a low water warning I would check heater matrix hoses where they come through the bulkhead...a good check is after a fifteen minute or more drive take a cloth put it over and partially rotate the water filler cap on the header tank if it is pressurised it will hiss loudly if pressure is is not there then you have a leak in the water coolant system possibly explaining the footwell water ingress.

had another poke around & think I have found the source of the leak .... the heater thermostat control :) I'll start a new thread :)
